Coastworks has helped with the commencement of groundwork on a milestone development to create a new marina at Stornoway. This is part of a long-term vision for the town’s harbour.
RJ McLeod Contractors Ltd won a £5 million contract for the marina and Coastworks are delighted to have been appointed to assist with the dredging and disposal of some 22,700m3 of material.
The upgraded marina will see the creation of 70 new berths for leisure craft, a marine engineering workshop and infrastructure to support future development including business/industrial and leisure.
As part of the overall plan, the Port Authority hopes to develop a deep-water port to encourage growth in the cruise liner business through provision of improved facilities for larger ships.
